Where do Creative Gourmet berries come from?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions and there is no simple answer! Most of our berries are imported and the country of origin does change – depending on seasons, regions, availability, price and quality.
In general, our frozen Raspberries are sourced from Chile, one of the world’s greatest berry growing nations. However, during recent supply difficulties caused by the Chilean earthquake, we sourced some of our Raspberries from Poland.

Our Blueberries generally come from Canada, Strawberries from China, Blackberries from New Zealand and Cherries from USA and Greece.

At Creative Gourmet we source our berries and fruit from all around the world, according to our strict quality criteria. We are Australia’s biggest supplier of frozen berries, handling over 1,000 tonnes of fruit each year.
The majority of berries are grown in ‘cold climate’ countries, and there’s simply not enough volume available from growers in Australia to supply the quantities we need.

Our buyers carry out regular inspections with all our suppliers to ensure the quality and value that we demand and we ensure all our berries are subject to stringent testing to comply with all relevant Australian Food Standards.
All our berries are snap frozen at the time and place of harvest, to lock in the flavour and goodness. We insist on best practice processes throughout our grower and supply network and all Creative Gourmet fruits are packed in our state-of-the-art plant in Bairnsdale, in regional Victoria.

Given the changeable nature of regions, regional growing seasons and our global product sourcing policy, it is simply not practical to specify individual Country of Origin on each pack. We’re not trying to hide anything, we just can’t print it on the pack – because it does change!
