10 Tips for Organising Your Pantry

Well, it’s September. The weather is getting better, the sun is starting to shine through the clouds, the garden is refreshed from all the rain and you can finally hang washing out on the line again. It’s an amazing time of year, and what a better time to do a spring clean than at the beginning of spring!

We love organised homes with clean and practical spaces that make the business of life just that little less chaotic. We thought we would bring to you a quick 9-step guide to organising your pantry as our first step to our spring clean out.

Pantries can get crowded very quickly. One trip to the supermarket with a stock up of your favourite items that are on special and you’ve got yourself a crowded space again. Don’t despair as it doesn’t have to be this way! Pantry organisation will give you even more space in your cupboard for all your yummy treats and dinner staples with a better snap shot of what you have, what you don’t and more importantly, what you really need to buy.

  1. Chuck it out

Being wasteful is not good however, we all know that you won’t be using that jar of relish that expired in the early 2000’s. Take everything out and work out what is still in date or close to. Anything that isn’t – chuck it!

  1. Group items together

Once you have worked out everything you don’t need, arrange them into categories. This could be “snacks” or “fruits” or “dinners” if you group things by what meal they will be used in. There are no right and wrongs when it comes to this step, it’s whatever filing system works for you. Our best tip if you’re lost is to imagine the aisles at the supermarket, and group them into similar categories.

  1. Get some storage solutions

You don’t need one for everything, but getting jars, containers, baskets or racks will definitely help you group your items together and make them look organised and uniformed. We love using jars for things like granola or muesli and baskets for odd-shaped items such as chip packets or bars. Racks are great for herbs, spices and sauces which keep them lined up and takes up less space.

  1. Clean

It may seem basic, but a good clean out of your shelves will do wonders to the overall look of your pantry as well as make it smell sweet! Using some cleaning products to get out stains or scuff marks is the perfect way to begin your clean out before putting it all back in.

  1. Think about the layout

When you’ve got your storage solutions sorted and you have a clean space to work with, think about the layout. Do you want your baskets at the bottom or the top? What items should be at eye level? Think about what you want (and don’t want) your kids to see. This may give you a good starting point.

  1. Clean everything

Not just your pantry shelves but things like sauce bottles in particular which can get grubby in no time. Get some hot soapy water and give them a decent clean and it will do wonders (just don’t leave any lids open!).

Teenage years spent stocking shelves at the supermarket taught us some valuable life-organisation lessons! SPRING INTO SPRING: BREAKFAST RECIPES

It’s official – spring is finally here! When spring rolls around, we expect lighter nights, and warmer days, which is very motivating after the cold chills of winter. September is a great time to get motivated and embrace a new routine for you fitness, health and wellbeing. A great way to start your spring motivation is with breakfast!

Breakfast as we know is the most important meal of the day so we have compiled a list of favorite spring-worthy recipes that will get you up and going from the start of the day!

BERRY SMOOTHIE

Made using our delicious Frozen Banana’s Raspberries, Blueberries or Strawberries this delicious pink smoothie is a perfect breakfast option that will keep you energized all morning.

Honey Vs Sugar

During the winter months, it’s easy to crave warming foods that aren’t necessarily good for you. A lot of these foods can be full of sugar, which we all know, leads to fat. Many people are cutting down on their sugar intake, but if you haven’t already – we thought that we’d show you some easy ways to substitute sugar in dishes by using honey instead.

Lets start off by saying we’re not experts, but honey has a range of health benefits and is a natural way of getting a sweet fix.

We love adding honey to our dishes, and we think you will too!

Porridge/Oats

Porridge is a simple one.  If you’re adding sugar to your porridge, replace it with a small drizzle of honey and fruit such as berries. We love the sweet and soothing taste it gives to oats.

Smoothies

Another quick and easy breakfast that can quickly rack up your sugar intake for the entire day! You need to look out for the hidden sugars in the ingredients being added such as flavored or frozen yoghurts as well as the natural sugars in fruits. We much prefer the taste with a small spoonful of honey, especially when mixed with banana or berries. It allows you to satisfy your sweet cravings whilst not blowing your sugar intake for the day in one meal.

 

Muffins/Cakes

Baking can be a nightmare for those wanting to lose weight or keep a healthy/balanced diet. We love to substitute honey instead of sugar or artificial sweeteners! It makes things like muffins and cakes just that little bit better for you, so you wont feel as guilty taste testing a couple whilst you’re cooking!

Tea

I know it sounds silly, but do you have sugar in your tea? Why not substitute it for a teaspoon of honey instead? It gives your daily warm drink a comforting component and will naturally sweeten it up. Isn’t that a win-win?

 

Muesli/Cereals

A lot of pre-packaged cereals can be full of sugar or artificial sweeteners which is hard to avoid, right? Wrong! If you can, take the time to make your own! You can use oats, dried fruit, nuts and shredded coconut, mix it all with honey and bake it until lightly golden! This will give you a naturally sweetened toasted muesli for your breakfast each day and take out all those nasty sugars other pre-made cereals are filled with!

So there you have it everyone, some quick and easy ways to reduce your sugar intake, and replace added sugar with honey, which you can incorporate into your daily routine without much fuss, or breaking the bank!
